ORANGE BEACH, AL (WALA) -

An Orange Beach man was arrested early Wednesday morning, June 13, 2018 for public intoxication after police say he ran his boat onto the jetty at Orange Beach.

Orange Beach Police got a call for a boat in distress about 2:00 a.m.  When they arrived at the scene, they found a large yacht on the east jetty at Perdido Pass.  No injuries were reported.

Police said 47 year old Stephen Craig Hallum of Orange Beach was alone on the boat when they got there.  Hallum was arrested at the scene for public intoxication and booked into Orange Beach City Jail.

“Mr. Hallum was arrested for public intox.  Just because of the amount of time and not witnessing the accident, we could not prove he was the one driving the boat,” explained Lt. Robert Howard with Orange Beach Police.

Stephen Hallum remained in the Orange Beach City Jail Wednesday afternoon on a $1,700 bond.  Once he bonds out, Hallum will be responsible for removing the boat from the jetty.
