Causeway pipeline project completed; boat launch reopens

Posted: Updated:
SPANISH FORT, AL (WALA) -

Great news for boaters and anglers along the Causeway. The Chocolatta Bay boat launch is open again.

The boat ramp was closed for more than a year while the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System installed a new water line to Spanish Fort. The boat launch area was used as a staging area for pipes and equipment.

The pipeline is complete and the parking area has been repaved.

Those who use the ramp are glad to see it open.

"I was giving up on it.  I was about to give up on it, but I said, no.  I came up here and watched and saw where they had graded it off and everything and I said, well maybe they're going to pave it and came back over here and sure enough, they paved it.  So, glad to see the work's done?  Extremely.  Extremely glad," said Robert Coleman.

The water line project was delayed for nine months after the original contractor broke the line. MAWSS hired a second contractor to finish the job.
