Suspect in Pensacola kidnapping, rape case faced a murder charge in 2014

PENSACOLA, FL (WALA) -

Corey Antwone Hill -- the man arrested overnight and charged with kidnapping and rape in Pensacola -- previously faced a murder charge in 2014 before that case was dropped, according to Florida court records.

Police in Pensacola say 35-year-old Hall kidnapped and raped a woman early Monday morning. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail early Wednesday, and his bond was set at $165,000, according to jail records.

Authorities say a video recording shows Hill carrying an unconscious woman to his car. Investigators say the woman and a man were drinking at a bar on Palafox Street when she started to pass out.

Police say Hill offered to watch the woman as her companion went to get his car. They say by the time he returned, the woman and Hill were gone.

This was not Hill's first brush with the law. Court records show Hill was charged in 2014 for the murder of Alfred L. Watson, who was killed two years earlier.

However, the murder charge was dismissed in 2015 when it was found that evidence against Hill was insufficient, according to court records.

By 2014, the Watson murder case was a cold case when investigators named Hill as their prime suspect. U.S. Marshals tracked down Hill in Tampa. He was extradited to Pensacola.

Watson's body was found in a wooded area near the intersection of Wentworth and Maxwell streets in December 2012.
