MOBILE, AL (WALA) -

A man continues to recover at USA Medical Center from a machete attack -- the result of a domestic situation. The suspect remains jailed after a nearly four hour standoff with police.  We brought you the exclusive report on air and online Tuesday night.

Mobile Fire Rescue got the call for help around 9:50. They were on the scene within six minutes but this hero officer knew there wasn't enough time and drove him to the hospital herself and as your about to see she used to work along side another hero.

The blue lights were flashing and the yellow crime tape was already up by the time we arrived on Emogene Street. Just 15 minutes before around 9:45 p.m. -- a Mobile Police officer patrolling came in contact with a man who was severely bleeding, the victim of a machete attack.

Time was not on his side -- so the officer put him in her patrol car and rushed him to the hospital. With slashes to his head, leg and back -- there was blood seen on her car outside the hospital.

The hero officer is Margo Andrews. If her name sounds familiar she was the patrol partner of fallen Mobile Police Officer Justin Billa.

"With her training and experience... She realized the type of bleeding this subject had. It was easy to get him to the hospital. versus having to wait for medical to arrive on the scene," said Cpl. LaDerrick Dubose.

Back on Emogene, investigators worked to find the suspect -- the ex-boyfriend of the victim's girlfriend.

They were able to corner him in a wooded area behind Emogene Street.  SWAT and negotiators were brought in, as well as a drone and a K-9.

Setting up a safety perimeter, officers armed with guns and patience waited it out. It was during a Facebook Live around 1:40 a.m. that MPD confirmed the suspect was in custody. He's identified as 24-year-old Michael Walker and has been charged with Assault 1st, and a Probation Violation -- stemming from a guilty plea for beating his ex-girlfriend.

Meanwhile, at last check the victim was said to be in guarded condition.
