The 4th Annual Navarre Beach Sand Sculpting festival is this weekend (09/27/13 – 09/29/13)!
Gina Gregory stopped by Studio10 with some pictures and video of last year’s event along with all the info you need to come on out this year!
Ten of the world’s top soft sand sculptors will compete against each other by turning in the 4th annual Navarre Beach Sand Sculpting Festival lifeless sand into works of art September 27-29, next to the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier. “We are excited to welcome these Sand Masters for the fourth year,” said Kate Wilkes, Executive Director of the Santa Rosa County Tourism Development Council. This year sculptors are going with the theme “bigger is better” making a larger than life sculpture centerpiece that will certainly “wow” those in attendance.
The public is invited to watch these sand sculpting geniuses create their masterpieces and get involved in the competition by registering to compete in the amateur division. Both teams and individuals (limited to the first 20 applicants) will have the opportunity to compete for prizes on Sunday, September 29.
Navarre Beach is tucked away in a corner of Northwest Florida, far away from crowded theme parks and packed beaches, like its neighbors to the east and west.
This area shines as a slice of paradise with sugar white sand and emerald green waters along the Northwest Florida Panhandle. Among Florida’s treasured barrier islands, Navarre Beach is a natural retreat. It is situated on Santa Rosa Island, surrounded by protected natural coastline.
The area’s gulf beaches are named among the best in the nation year after year.
Navarre Beach is home to one of only ten National Seashores, and when the world's best sculptors begin performing, those pure white sands rise up into works of pure art. This year's centerpiece will be a 60-ton exhibit sculpture created by the master sculptors.
A big trend coming again to the festival is "Quick Sand," an audience-participation event in which sculptors go head-to-head for a ten-minute competition and advance to further championship rounds based on audience applause.
Other attractions/events include:
Opportunity to meet all of the Master Sculptors
Sand sculpting demonstrations/lessons daily
Amateur contest for individuals and teams
Vendors from around the country – offering a great selection of festival food, beverages, specialty retail and arts & crafts.
The festival begins Friday, September 27 and the shows continue through Sunday, September 29. For more information about the Navarre Beach Sand Sculpting Festival, visit www.navarresandsculpting.com
