The beach is our backyard so why not take advantage of it? Just remember, that salt water can do a number on your hair! Even if you prefer the pool it's still important to protect your locks.
The sun, chlorine, saltwater and sweat will all damage your hair, and preventing damage is key. So before you go to the beach or to the pool, use products that contain UVA and UBA protection. CHI, Fekkai, Redken, Privé, and Alterna are all lines that offer products that contain UV protection. You can add extra protection by filling a spray bottle with water and a few drops of your favorite conditioner, then spraying your hair before you get in the water. That limits the amount of chlorine or salt water your hair absorbs.
A couple of products that can help get chlorine our of your hair are Chlorine-Out Shampoo and Conditioner. The shampoo eliminates the "greenish tint" caused by Copper, and contains Aloe to moisturize, soothe, and calm the hair. The conditioner is highly moisturizing and works to hydrate and condition while improving dry and damaged hair without leaving a heavy buildup.
After a day at the beach or pool, wash your hair and protect it with a deep moisturizing treatment that can help remove chlorine and salt. Look for treatments from Aveda, Redken, Rene, and Alterna.
After a day in the water, you're hair is most likely going to be tangled. Running a regular brush through your hair will only cause breakage. De-tangling with a wide tooth comb removes shed hair and keeps damage to a minimum. It's also easier on your hair if you de-tangle in sections.
If you just want to lay by the pool, or stay on the sand, you still need to protect your hair from sun damage. You may want to pull your hair back in a bun, ponytail, or braid, or wear a hat.
