A ridge of high pressure is expected to build over the West Coast on Saturday, while an extensive cold front will impact the central and eastern thirds of the country.
Temperatures will continue to warm up along the West Coast on Saturday as high pressure builds over the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures will increase over the Rockies, Intermountain West, the Pacific Northwest, and the Southwest, while cooler conditions will push to the east. The southern California and Arizona deserts will experience temperatures in the 90s, and the Pacific Northwest can expect temperatures in the 70s and 80s.
The Plains and Ohio Valley will experience cooler temperatures on Saturday as a result of a cold frontal passage. Temperatures will likely drop 10 to 15 degrees on Saturday, as the upper Midwest will have a slight chance for snow on Saturday morning. Widespread rain will impact the several regions in the central and eastern thirds of the country as a result of this cold front. Strong thunderstorms are expected to develop along the Gulf Coast, while showers will push through parts of the Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley. The Mid-Atlantic Coast, as well as the Southeast coast, can expect showers and thunderstorms throughout the day as the cold front propagates eastward. Rain will also push into the Northeast during the late morning and early afternoon.
