Exercise provides so many health benefits, but it's important that we don't overdo it. In this video, Dr. Elise Gordon from The Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine talks about sports related injuries and how to avoid them.
Sport injuries can happen at any age, from little league to major league. They can vary from sport to sport. Dr. Gordon says she sees everything from ankle sprains and tendonitis, to shoulder injuries and wrist and elbow related injuries.
Dr. Gordon says there is no magical method to prevent an injury. The best way to help prevent injury is to stay in shape, eat nutritious food such as protein to help your body rebuild muscle, stay hydrated and make sure to rest. When your body is fatigued that's when injuries are more likely to happen.
If you start to hurt, take time and listen to your body. Rest a few hours or a few days until you feel like you’re ready to play sports again. If the pain does not go away with rest, then its time to see a physician.
