MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - One man is dead and another in custody following a shooting death outside a mobile home in Grand Bay Friday morning, October 18.
It happened off Strickland Road.
BROTHER SAID HE FOUND VICTIM'S BODY
The brother of the victim said he found the body outside his brother's mobile home.
Eugene Lundy said, "I got woke up to a phone call, somebody telling me, 'You got SWAT teams coming down your drive with machine guns and all.'"
Lundy lives next door to where the shooting happened.
He said he got that phone call about Friday morning, walked outside, and found his brother's body.
Lundy said, "I passed him and seen him, and I was like, 'Oh my God, what's going on, what are you doing?' I tried to holler at him to wake him up or something."
Eugene said he found the body of his brother, 46-year-old Clarence Lundy, next to the mobile home where Clarence had been living.
DETAILS FROM SHERIFF'S OFFICE
Mobile County sheriff's officials said Clarence was shot in the head.
They also said a suspect, 64-year-old Stanley Clemmons, was being held in Meridian, Mississippi and cooperating with authorities.
Lt. Paul Burch with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office said, "My understanding is that the victim was dating a relative of the suspect."
LOOKING FOR ANSWERS
Eugene said Clarence was working at a McDonald's restaurant in Loxley, and Clemmons would come to the mobile home to pick him up to take him to work.
Before getting the phone call Friday morning, Eugene said he saw Clemmons' truck leaving the mobile home.
When asked if he was shocked to hear authorities were questioning Clemmons, Lundy said, "Yeah, because this wasn't the first time he'd been here to pick my brother up and take him to work and bring him back home. They'd been doing it, like I said, I know, he's been with me for ten days and they, everyday like clockwork."
Now, Lundy is trying to understand why his brother was killed.
Lundy said, "He was a real good guy, everybody liked him, very smart. He was working at McDonald's, that's from what I gathered, getting a managerial position, (and) was supposed to be having a new baby on the way."
Sheriff's officials said Clemmons does not have a prior criminal record.
