MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - There are 123,171 registered voters in the city of Mobile, but officials said only 45.6 percent cast their ballot for the municipal elections.
FOX10 News is taking a closer look at turnout in three different precincts: Figures Park Community Center, Mobile Museum of Art and Taylor Community Center.
Precinct (1-3) Figures Community Centerr: 7,136 people are registered to vote; 2,971 voted for Sam Jones, 191 for Stimpson. That equals a 44.3 percent voter turnout.
Precinct (3-1) Taylor Park Community Center: 3,934 people are registered to vote; 1,211 people voted for Jones, Stimpson 32, for a 31.6 percent voter turnout.
Precinct ( 7-2) Mobile Museum of Art : 5,708 people are registered to vote. 434 people voted for Jones, 2,758 voted for Stimpson. The museum saw one of the highest turnouts with 55.9 percent of registered voters casting their vote.
Here is what the Mobile City Clerk Lisa Lambert has to say about the turnout.
"It's normal voting habits. It depends when it is and what is going on and getting your people out to vote. I would say from the precinct where the mayor had a lower turnout, people just did not come out to vote for whatever reason," said Lambert.
Back in 2005 about 53,000 people voted in the run-off election between Sam Jones and John Pevy. This year, about about 57,000. Compared to 2005, this election day had a higher turnout.
