MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Week nine of the high school football season kicked off tonight at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. It was a 6-A Region 1 matchup with many playoff implications on the line. Last week, the Davidson (3-4) warriors defeated MGM (0-6) 17-16 and Alma Bryant (4-3) also upset Murphy (4-2) 59-40 to keep their playoff dreams alive.
Davidson hosted Alma Bryant tonight in a game that would eliminate one team from any postseason games. The Warriors struck first on a quarterback keeper from Michael Riley, as Davidson led 7 to nothing early in the first quarter. Later, Davidson would extend its lead on a field goal, 10 to 0.
In the second quarter, Bryant would get on the board on a touchdown pass from Tyler Nealy to Chris Nobles, the Hurricanes still trailed the Warriors 10 to 7. Later that half, Nealy would keep the ball and get in for the score; Bryant led 14-10, and would go on to win 34 to 23 over Davidson.

It's just been wonderful, and our players plying with so much heart. I can't say enough about our guys and our coaches that prepared them this week, and the last few weeks to get ready to play football,” said Bryant head coach Bruce Breland. "Both teams played real hard. I was a little disappointed with a few of our mistakes, and I know they had mistake too. They were disappointed with [the mistakes], but our kids fought hard just like theirs. It was great coming out on top. Now we're just looking forward to playoffs hopefully, and going to wait for tomorrow night's scores to see where we are.”
The games Friday, October 25 will decide whether Breland and his Hurricanes will see round one of the playoffs.
