MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Last season the Alabama Crimson Tide won their third national championship in three years.
Much of that success is credited to the Tide’s defense – which ranked number one in the nation a year ago.
Nick Saban says the defense will be a key factor in stopping Virginia Tech this weekend.
“Six starters back on offense, 9 on defense Logan Thomas is an exceptionally talented QB who is really capable of taking over a game as a passer or as a runner – This is a good all around team we’re playing, very challenging game for our guys,” said Saban.
A main part of the Tide defense – junior defensive back Ha Ha Clinton Dix.
The d-back lead the team and SEC with 5 interceptions in 2013 and his skills will be put to the test this Saturday.
“They’re a big motion team, they like motion a lot, they have a great QB that can throw, stay in the pocket, and also move out of the pocket … and going to make big plays with his legs – he’s a dual threat, he can pass he can run so I look forward to playing against him this week,” said Clinton Dix.
Clinton Dix says he and the number one ranked defense are ready for week one on the big stage at the Georgia Dome.
“I look forward to playing there, it’s a big nice stadium, it’s very loud so I just want to come out and play and have a great game – I feel great about the secondary, everyone is buying in, everyone had bought in, I think everyone is ready to play their first game and get the chill off their shoulder.”
