PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Police in Prichard are investigating a homicide on this Fourth of July.

It was between 3:30 and 4 a.m. when officers responded to the 500 block of West Main Street, where officers discovered a deceased victim subsequently identified by authorities as Cleavland L. Goodwin, 38.

“Although a clear motive to this yet again senseless murder has yet to be determined, Prichard detectives believe that it steamed from an altercation between the victim and a female subject, that later caused a third subject to become involved,” stated Prichard Public Service Director TJ Pettway for a news release. “The third subject to become intwined in this deadly incident has been identified as Michael Edwards.”

Pettway said an arrest warrant was obtained from the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office and that Edwards would be charged with murder. Mobile County Metro Jail records show Edwards, 43, of Mobile, was booked into the jail on that charge at 12:12 p.m.

The case is still under investigation, Pettway said.

Mobile County Sheriff’s Office crime scene investigators also responded.
