MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A shooting occurred at the Walmart on the Beltline Tuesday night and left two injured, according to police.

Police Chief Paul Prine confirmed at around 8:30 p.m. that two groups of individuals were involved in an altercation and exchanged gunfire at the self-checkout lines.

Prine said that during the chaos, both shooters got away but investigators are still looking at evidence from the scene.

The female was shot in her right shoulder, but the police chief said he is not sure where the male was shot. He said he believes the victims’ injuries are considered non-life-threatening. This was not an active shooter scenario in that you had a random person going in and randomly shooting people. He said he believes the two groups of individuals are known to one another but what they are arguing about is unknown at the time.

Police said a male and female were taken to the hospital for their injuries, but who the individuals were and the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

There were officers in the area due to the holiday season patrolling the streets so there was a fast response from patrol. They were able to isolate the situation and get it under control before anyone else got hurt, according to Prine.

The police chief said he’s confident in the coming days that they’ll be able to make arrests soon.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
