2 more Baker students arrested after multiple fights at school

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - According to a Mobile County School Board member, two additional Baker students were arrested at home Thursday.

This comes one day after three students were arrested and multiple fights occurred on the high school campus.

According to officials, approximately 1,000 students were absent from school Thursday.

Baker High School Principal John Poiroux sent the following statement to parents,

Good evening, Baker community.
I would like to take a moment to address the rumors and issues that occurred today. Unfortunately, some of our students made bad decisions and did not live up to our expectations at Baker High School. This resulted in three students being arrested. These students will be held accountable for their actions in accordance with the MCPSS Code of Conduct. Fighting is never acceptable on campus or in our community, and it is taken extremely seriously.
Safety is our first priority, and we will work diligently to ensure that our students are safe to learn in an orderly environment. We take all rumors and comments seriously and work together with MPD to address them all. MPD is aware of the situation along with the numerous rumors floating around. Extra safety measures will be in place tomorrow. Any student who continues to make bad decisions and to not follow the MCPSS Code of Conduct will not be attending BHS.
It has been a great first quarter, and I look forward to finishing strong. Parents and students: If you see or hear something please let us know so we can work together to ensure a safe learning environment. I look forward to having a normal school day tomorrow.
