Convenience store shooting victim speaks out as urgent manhunt continues
EIGHT MILE, Ala. (WALA) - We are hearing from the victim of a brazen shooting at an Eight Mile convenience store as the urgent manhunt is still underway for the accused gunman.
Deputies say 30-year-old Rashad Norwood shot a store owner during a robbery on Tuesday.
That victim texted FOX10 News from his hospital bed, and this is what he said: “I don’t have anything to say other than I was lucky to be alive, and hopefully the sheriff can catch who did this to me and my family.”
He went on to say, “I am blaming the Prichard police for not putting him in jail the first time he robbed my store. That’s all I want to say.”
A customer at the food mart says it’s sad but not surprising.
“Honestly, the most disappointing part is Prichard apparently had a warrant on the man who was arrested, and Prichard apparently wasn’t taking up on that warrant,” said Nathan Coxwell. “It’s honestly no surprise something like that happened here. Of course, it’s always horrible when something like that happens, but honestly, you can’t even be surprised because the area is just like that.”
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said Norwood is facing attempted murder and first degree robbery charges.
If you know where Rashad Norwood, you are asked to call the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.
