ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) - A Brunswick, Ga., man received a life prison term Thursday after an Escambia County jury convicted him of second-degree murder in the death of a prison inmate.
After the verdict, Circuit Court Judge Coleman Robinson handed the life sentence to Alex Vega, Florida’s Office of State Attorney announced.
The charges stem from an incident on Sept.15, 2021, at the Century Correctional Institution where Vega, an inmate, stabbed another inmate with a handmade weapon, prosecutors said.
At the time of the stabbing, Vega was serving a 15 year state prison sentence for attempted murder and other charges, the state attorney’s office said.
