Super Bowl committee names Saints stars as community champions

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Super Bowl LIX Host Committee has appointed Saints players and a prominent sports journalist as Community Champions in the lead-up to Super Bowl LIX.

Defensive end Cam Jordan, linebacker Demario Davis, safety Tyrann Mathieu, and NFL on Fox and New Orleans Pelicans sideline reporter Jen Hale will lead efforts to engage the community and welcome visitors ahead of the Feb. 9, 2025 game.

“It’s a privilege to have Cam, Demario, Tyrann, and Jen on board as Community Champions for the Host Committee,” said Jay Cicero, President and CEO of the Super Bowl LIX Host Committee and Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation. “These four have long been champions for the city of New Orleans, and we look forward to working with them to make a lasting impact here for our record-tying 11th Super Bowl.”

As Community Champions, these local icons will promote initiatives such as the Super Bowl LIX Source procurement program, which aims to increase opportunities for over 200 local underrepresented businesses.

“We represent everyone who calls this place home, and we’re going to take advantage of the opportunity ahead of us. When we step up for our communities, they’ll stand taller,” said Jordan.

They will also support Impact 59 Powered by Entergy, a program set to award at least $3 million in grants to local nonprofits, along with NFL Green sustainability projects, and youth engagement and STEM programming.

“This game goes beyond the actions on the field; it’s about the entire community uniting for a common cause. We carry the heart and pride of our community with us every step of the way,” said Davis.

Additionally, they will be recruiting volunteers through the Super Bowl LIX Ambassador Program presented by Chevron, which is designed to greet and assist the influx of visitors to New Orleans.

“It was only natural for me to represent my hometown New Orleans and to give back to a city that has given me so much love and support,” said Mathieu.

Announced just ahead of the first home game of the 2024-2025 New Orleans Saints season, these Community Champions were selected for their dedication to the city and their ability to inspire others.

“I’ve reported on this community and its people for years. There’s something special about a place like New Orleans. I’m proud to represent my neighbors, friends, and family to really make something special happen in the Superdome and on the streets of our hometown,” Hale said.
