BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - A woman arrested and indicted on a murder charge for a 2022 Loxley homicide has been acquitted at trial.

Shawnda Turner was found not guilty of intentional murder of Tomeca Richardson. She was also found not guilty of assaulting Richardson’s brother, Mack Richardson.

According to investigators, the incident started because Turner, Tomeca Richardson and Destiny Tate were arguing and that Turner had pulled out a gun and shot a man in the hand, which then led to gunfire erupting with bullets being fired from more than one gun. Tomeca Richardson was struck in the torso and killed.

Turner’s lawyer said Turner never had a gun in her possession during the crime and that the state’s witnesses contradicted their stories with the facts from the scene of the shooting.
