Man plays hockey on New Orleans' famed Canal Street during historic winter blast
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/Gray News) – As New Orleans was hit with a record-breaking snowstorm, one man decided to make the most of the icy streets by turning them into his personal hockey rink.
A viral video captured by WVUE shows former minor league hockey player Jay Croop skating around Canal Street, stick in hand, on the ice-covered road.
Croop, a former member of the Columbus River Dragons of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, weaved through the frozen landscape, creating a surreal sight in a city better known for Mardi Gras than hockey games.
The scene captivated social media, with viewers in disbelief that someone could now play ice hockey on streets that are normally hot and humid.
The winter storm is one for the history books, dumping a near-record amount of snow across south Louisiana.
