Arkansas State defeats South Alabama 15-14 on a last second field goal

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The South Alabama Jaguars are still in search of their first Sun Belt Conference win after falling in the final seconds to Arkansas State.
The Jags jumped out to a lead thanks to a nine-yard touchdown run by Kentrel Bullock. South’s offense would stall for the remainder of the first half, but the defense, led by Blayne Myrick who had 13 tackles, stepped up to keep the Red Wolves out of the endzone to make it a 7-3 game at halftime.
The defense would continue to play a huge role with Nehemiah Chandler coming up with an interception midway through the third quarter which set up a 27-yard touchdown run by PJ Martin to increase the lead. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t be enough.
Arkansas State scored 12 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. A missed field goal by South with less than two minutes left gave the Red Wolves time to march down the field one last time and win the game on a 38-yard field goal as time expired.
South Alabama falls to 1-6 on the season and will again go for their first conference win of the year when they travel to take on Georgia State next Thursday.
