MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - After winning on the road against Louisiana-Monroe last week, the South Alabama Jaguars looked to win two in a row when they returned home to host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

The Jags established the run early and built an early two score lead thanks to touchdown runs from Keenan Phillips and Kentrel Bullock. The Jags’ defense also sacked Braylon Braxton twice and held the Golden Eagles to eight rushing yards in the first half. Southern Miss was able to get on the board thanks to a flea flicker from Braxton to Carl Chester. But the Jags still led 21-7 at halftime.

South Alabama came up with the game’s only turnover to start the second half when UMS-Wright alum Cole Blaylock came up with his first career interception and returned it 30 yards to the three-yard line. Bishop Davenport would score back-to-back touchdown runs to push the lead to 35-7.

Southern Miss would cut the game to a two-score deficit until Kentrel Bullock broke free on a 64-yard touchdown run to put the game out of reach and seal a 42-35 win on senior day.

In the win, Kentrel Bullock finished the game with 23 carries for 187 yards and three touchdowns to put him over the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season. MGM graduate Jared Hollins also played during the Jags second series and finished the game completing all three of his passes for 30 yards on South’s first scoring drive.

South Alabama will finish the season on the road next week against Texas State.
