SPECIAL EVENT:

National Public Health Week – (Week of April 6 – April 12)

This year’s theme is “Ready. Set. Action!” Throughout this week of recognition, we have honored how public health touches our lives every day – keeping our families safe, helping us live healthier and longer lives, and strengthening the communities we serve and share.

This week Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer of Mobile County and Dr. Stephanie Woods-Crawford, Executive Director of Prevention & Wellness, received proclamations and resolutions from the Mobile County Commission, City of Mobile, Town of Dauphin Island, and the City of Saraland on behalf of the Mobile County Health Department.

Since 1816, the Mobile County Health Department has upheld a legacy of excellence, working diligently to protect and improve the health and well-being of our community – providing essential services such as disease surveillance and prevention, health education, environmental health, clinical care, and emergency preparedness.

As we recognize Public Health Week, we are focusing on one of our programs that is vital to our community – Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Nutrition Services. This program provides vital nutrition support to pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and young children who are at nutritional risk. Through access to healthy foods, breastfeeding support, nutrition education, and referrals to healthcare and social services, WIC helps families build a strong foundation for lifelong health. We support early childhood development and maternal well-being. WIC plays a critical role in strengthening the overall health of our community.
