ATLANTA, Ga. (WAFF) - Former Alabama football player and sports agent Luther Davis ran a multi–million dollar loan scam in Georgia by impersonating NFL stars, according to federal prosecutors.

A new criminal filing in Atlanta says Davis and a partner created fake companies, fake emails, and even fake driver’s licenses in the names of three current NFL players.

Investigators said Davis put on wigs, makeup, and disguises to appear on video loan closings as if he were those players, fooling lenders into approving nearly $20 million in loans.

Prosecutors said the money went into accounts they controlled and was spent on real estate, cars, and jewelry.

A court filing shows Davis intends to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft during an April 27 hearing.
