Puckett’s two home runs lift Jaguars to 4-3 win over Southern Miss

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Southern Miss struck first with a run in the third inning, ripping a triple into the right-center gap just out of the reach of Nick Richardson, who made a strong effort on the play.

South Alabama answered in the fourth. Blake Guerin doubled, and Mike Young reached on an infield error, setting up Nick Richardson to bring Guerin home on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at one.

In the sixth, Stewart Puckett gave the Jaguars the lead, blasting a 409-foot solo home run—his seventh of the season—over the right-center wall to make it 2-1.

Southern Miss responded again, scoring in both the seventh and eighth innings on RBI base hits to retake the lead.

But in the late innings, Stewart Puckett delivered once more. With Brennon Wright on base, Puckett crushed a go-ahead, two-run homer—his second of the game—which proved to be the difference as the Jaguars secured a 4-3 win.

South Alabama now hits the road for a midweek matchup against UNO on Wednesday, April 29, looking to split the season series after falling earlier this year at Stanky Field.
