Pelicans go 2-1 in summer league, face Cavaliers Wednesday
Kobe Bufkin averaging 21 points per game; head coach Jamahl Mosley visits Las Vegas
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Pelicans are 2-1 in NBA Summer League play after winning back-to-back games over the weekend.
The Pelicans entered Saturday’s matchup against the Charlotte Hornets having lost 12 straight summer league games dating back to 2023. New Orleans beat Charlotte 95-91, completing an 18-point comeback. On Sunday, the Pels never trailed against the Phoenix Suns, winning 81-75.
Players standing out
Former S. Aug standout Jaren Pierre Jr. scored 16 points against the Suns on his birthday. Kobe Bufkin, a former 2023 first-round draft pick, leads the Pelicans in scoring, averaging 21 points per game in summer league play.
Head coach in Las Vegas
New head coach Jamahl Mosley was in Las Vegas to watch the team this past weekend. He also spent time with veterans getting a workout in.
“Just get acclimated with the guys, you know, talking about the work ethic that needs to be had while we’re out here, setting the tone defensively and then just getting to know these guys,” Mosley said. “It’s been, you know, getting with the veterans that are on the roster, getting them together, working out. But again, just setting the tone where we want to be as an organization step by step has been. Those have been the things we’ve been looking at.”
Next game
The Pelicans are on a break before facing the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
