DETROIT (WVUE) - The Saints possess a big-ticket quarterback, running back and wide receiver when they open their 2026-27 season Sunday (Sept. 13) against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.

The noon game can be seen on Fox 8. Pregame coverage starts at 10 a.m. with the Fox 8 Live Tailgate.

Tyler Shough, Travis Etienne and Chris Olave could form the Saints’ version of the triplets. But New Orleans will need so much more to win not only against Detroit but also the NFC South in Kellen Moore’s second season as head coach.

Even with the signing of David Edwards at left guard, the rest of the unit lacks depth after the starting five.

The Saints’ defensive line is primed to wreak havoc on Lions quarterback Jared Goff, with Chase Young and Carl Granderson leading the charge.

But it’s the linebackers and secondary that could be extremely busy Sunday. Wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, with tight end Sam LaPorta, form a scary pass-catching trio for the Lions. And three-time Pro Bowl running back Jahmyr Gibbs can hurt you on the run and catching passes out of the backfield.

New Orleans’ defense will be without pass rusher Cam Jordan (hamstring).

The Saints enter the contest as a 7-point underdog. New Orleans is behind Tampa Bay in the betting odds to win the NFC South.
