TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Twelve people were injured after a shooting Saturday night on Perry Street just after the FAMU homecoming game, leaving three with serious injuries and one in critical condition.

TPD said Sunday morning that five victims have been released from the hospital, the other six remain hospitalized, and of those, one is still in critical condition. Perry Street appears to be back open as of Sunday afternoon.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell hosted a press conference just after midnight Sunday morning to share more details on Saturday night’s shooting.

Revell said officers responded to the shooting just before 8:00 p.m. after FAMU hosted the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions that same night for their annual homecoming game, which began at 3 p.m. and ended around 6 p.m.

Perry Street sits just a few steps away from Bragg Memorial Stadium.

Of the 12 people injured in the shooting, 11 of those were shot, Revell confirmed. He said the other victim was a grandmother and was hurt running from the scene.

Six of the victims were adults and the other six were juveniles, the youngest being 11 years old. Revell said he believes one of the victims is a FAMU student.

Officials confirmed three of the victims have serious injuries, one is in critical condition and the other eight are stable. TPD said “early findings” show that the shooting began with a physical altercation between two or three people.

In the press conference, Revell said it is still unknown what happened, but he believes this was an isolated incident.

Revell said no arrests have been made, and there is no person of interest at this point.

“I stand before you devastated,” Chief Revell said.

“No family should experience...this kind of heartbreak,” he added later.

He said two dozen of his officers were already in the area when shots rang out, and that the entire force was on the clock for the busy weekend.

FAMU student Jayden Dubois witnessed the shooting.

“We heard a couple gunshots, saw a crowd of people running, in the midst of the that I had gotten trampled a little bit. As I was getting up, I turned to my right and saw a person lying out on the ground,” Dubois said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tallahassee Police Department or through Crime Solvers at (850) 574-TIPS. Police said this is an active investigation.

Mayor John Dailey posted a message to the FAMU community after the shooting Saturday night.

“This is a truly horrific and heartbreaking tragedy. Tonight and in the days ahead, the FAMU family is not alone. Our entire community stands with you,” Dailey said.

FAMU shared an update on social media Saturday night asking people to avoid the area.

“While the campus remains safe, individuals are encouraged to avoid the area to allow law enforcement to conduct its investigation.”
