Homicide Investigation
Fort Walton Beach, FL – On November 6, 2026, at approximately 1:13 p.m., officers with the Fort Walton Beach Police Department responded to the parking lot of 126 McGriff St NE (Seaside Towing) in reference to a report of shots fired with an unresponsive individual on scene.
Upon arrival, officers located a male, later identified as Adam Thompson, 41, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers immediately performed life-saving measures
until the arrival of emergency medical personnel. Mr. Thompson was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicates this was an isolated incident arising from a localized dispute between co-workers, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. A second involved person was located at the scene and identified as Elijah Young, 26, of Okaloosa County, Fla.
Following a comprehensive and thorough investigation, detectives presented the facts of the case to a representative from the Florida State Attorney’s Office. Based upon the evidence gathered, witness statements, and a detailed review of the incident, it has been determined that no criminal charges will be filed. The investigation revealed that Mr. Young was acting in self-defense during the encounter.
The Fort Walton Beach Police Department considers this investigation closed. We appreciate the collaboration of the State Attorney’s Office and the patience of the community as detectives worked diligently to ensure a thorough and lawful resolution to this case.
