an s-u-v slammed into a building in downtown mobile early this morning.

        it happened at the corner of st. francis and royal street at the merchants plaza building.

        the driver apparently left the scene before authorities arrived.

        the damage the s-u-v was substantial.

        police towed the suv from the scene. 

controversy in baldwin county over the gulf shores school split.

        the state superintendent laying out a separation agreement that includes forcing the baldwin county school district to give the city of gulf shores 7 million dollars for operating costs for the remainder of the school year.

        now baldwin county is considering legal action.

        no matter the outcome both the city and county school system agree the split will be finalized june first.

        mobile united and the united way of southwest alabama are teaming up to help federal  workers affected by the government shutdown.

        they're hosting a food drive.

        it kicks off today and will run through january 28th.

        donations can be dropped off at mobile united on st. joseph street, the united way of southwest alabama on st. francis street and the atlanta bread company.

        delta dogs and ark animal clinic in mobile are teaming up to collect bags of dog and cat food to help federal workers affected by the government shutdown.

        you drop off your donations at arc animal clinic on spring hill memorial drive.

        if you have questions or concerns about the ongoing shutdown, you have a chance to get answers.

        congressman bradley byrne will be holding a town hall meeting at 10 this morning, at the tillman's corner community center.

        it's free  to the public.

        you'll notice some new traffic lights at two intersections in baldwin county.

        one, is where the baldwin beach express and i-10 west bound ramp meet.

        and - another at the beach express and county road 68 intersection.

        so make sure you check for a light now when you're driving through there.

        in baldwin county, there's an opportunity to safely get rid of electronics and personal documents this  weekend.

        the annual electronic recycling and shred day is tomorrow from 8 until noon at the 'gulf state park pavilion'.
