(Meredith) -- Tim Conway, the writer, director, and comedian known for co-starring on The Carol Burnett Show, has died at the age of 85.

A representative for Conway confirmed to PEOPLE that he died Tuesday morning near Los Angeles due to complications from Normal Pressure Hyrdocephalus.

Most famous as a star of The Carol Burnett Show, Conway was also well known for his roles as Ensign Parker in the 1960s sitcom McHale's Navy, Dorf from the comedy film series, and Barnacle Boy from Spongebob Squarepants. Conway's large body of work as an entertainer spans more than four decades.

His family asks that in lieu of flowers or gifts, contributions be made to The Lou Ruvo Brain Center at the Cleveland Clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada.
