In just a couple of days we will officially wrap up winter with the spring equinox coming up on Wednesday March, 20th.

9 Degrees Above

As we look back on this winter the thing that will stick out is the temperatures. We were well above normal in December, January, and March. In February, there was out of bounds warmth in Mobile, as it was better than nine degrees above average.

Pensacola? Basically the same story with above average for December, January, and March and then once again way above average in February.

No Freezes for Pensacola

So as you would imagine with numbers like that, the coldest temperatures were not very impressive this winter. Mobile dropped down to 29 degrees twice. Remember, last winter, we saw temperatures down into the teens a couple of times. Meanwhile, Pensacola only got down to 33 degrees. So that means not a single freeze was reported at the airport in Pensacola all winter long. Pretty remarkable.

The hottest temperatures of the winter were recorded in the month of March with 83 for Mobile and 84 for Pensacola.

Overall Dry

For rainfall we had some pretty good rains right around the end of December. The wettest day occurred for both Mobile and Pensacola on the 28th with 1.71” in Mobile and 3.12” for Pensacola, but overall we’ve had a relatively dry winter.

So what’s spring going to bring for us? We’ll find out in a couple of days.
