BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WALA) - A deputy from the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office was injured Tuesday while searching for a runaway teenager in Bay Minette.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were searching for the girl in an area on Highway 287 near Peterson Lane. Deputies said they saw the girl with an adult man near a wood line.
Investigators said the deputy told the man and girl to stop. While attempting to detain the man, the sheriff's office said the deputy was knocked unconscious when the suspect struck him in the head.
A second deputy then attempted to stop the suspect but he was also hit. Investigators said the second deputy suffered minor injuries.
The deputy who was knocked unconscious was taken by helicopter to University Hospital in Mobile. The sheriff's office said he is being evaluated and is in stable condition.
Both the man and the female juvenile are in custody with charges pending.
