Crews with Baldwin EMC Summerdale office started their day a little earlier than usual Thursday.

About 35 employees packed up and got on the road before sunrise to assist Wiregrass Electric Company with power restoration efforts following Hurricane Michael.

WEC provides electric service to approximately 23,000 electric accounts in Houston and Geneva counties. WEC also provides service to parts of Dale, Coffee and Covington Counties in southeast Alabama.

Hurricane Michael caused more than 17,000 power outages in the area.

Vice President of Corporate Services and Corporations for Baldwin EMC, Mark Ingram, said, "We’re just glad to be able to offer this service to Wireglass Electric Cooperative, because there’s a time where we are going to need that assistance whenever a hurricane hits our area, and we know that they will be there.”

Crew members say they're grateful to be apart of a community of mutual aid.

They’re expecting to stay and help out for at least a week.
