Beryl downgraded to tropical storm


Meteorologists with the National Hurricane Center late Saturday morning downgraded Beryl to a tropical storm.

Storm on Friday had become the first hurricane of the Atlantic 2018 season.

At 11 a.m. AST, Beryl was about 720 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles with maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour. Beryl was moving west-northwest at 14 miles per hour.

The government of Barbados has issued a tropical storm warning anddiscontinued the hurricane watch for Dominica.

The government of the Netherlands has issued a tropical storm watchfor Saba and St. Eustatius.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Dominica.

A tropical storm watch is in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy, and Saba and St. Eustatius.
