Site preparation for the Buc-ee's on I-10 in Baldwin County is coming along.
The 50,000 square foot travel center will be the first one built outside the state of Texas. The announcement about it coming to Baldwin County came last April. Buc-ee's will boast 120 fuel pumps for passenger vehicles. None of those pumps will be for 18-wheelers as big rigs are allowed at these stores.
Along with specialty foods and services, each store also takes on the character of the community in which it's located. County leaders say fuel taxes alone will bring in millions of dollars in revenue to help build new roads and improve existing ones. It will also be a major employer.
"Two hundred jobs for the area and these are pretty good-paying jobs, in the twelve to fifteen dollar range at least and then on top of that, you've got a hundred and twenty fueling locations and the store is I think, somewhere north of fifty thousand square feet," said Baldwin County Commissioner Chris Elliott
Construction should be completed by the end of the year and Buc-ee's plans to be open for business by the summer of 2019.
