Donovan Rodgers, 30, arrested and charged with first degree robbery (MPD)

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -- The suspect in a robbery at Dick's Sporting Goods has been arrested according to the Mobile Police Department.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Donovan Rodgers.

When asked about the crime as he was escorted to a police cruiser, Rodgers maintained his innocence.

"I ain't go no comment," he repeatedly said.

Following the robbery, Mobile Police released surveillance video along with images from the Dick's Sporting Goods at McGowin Park.

According to police, it happened Wednesday, October 17, at around 6:24 p.m.

While the suspect appears to be shopping, picking up items here and there around the store -- red flags went up as employees watched his strange behavior in the back of the store.

Almost creeping around the aisle, the suspect looks around and eventually puts the items in a black duffel bag. Moments later the store manager confronts him -- asking him to leave. But he wasn't going without the black bag -- according to investigators he threatened to shoot the manager if he didn't let go of the bag.

By the time officers got there he was gone -- getting away with more than $500 worth of merchandise.

“It just shows you the boldness of someone who walks into a busy store. They feel like they’re not going to be confronted or challenged with taking merchandise, they will take the merchandise," Corporal LaDerrick Dubose with MPD said. "Like I said, in this case, and like a lot of their cases we were fortunate enough to have good video evidence and good quality pictures where some of the investigators can go back and do some face comparisons and put word out to other investigators and they may come in contact with some of them. So, that’s how we’re able to locate a lot of them."
