CAUGHT IN THE ACT: Unique bicycle stolen from hotel

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -- New year -- new crime. Surveillance video at the Home 2 Suites by Hilton at McGowan Park is the first reported theft of Mobile's 1st Precinct for 2019.

Doug Dabney had just bought a bike two days before. He and his wife are staying at the hotel because of a house fire. He had only ridden the bike twice before it was stolen as it was parked just outside the glass door of the hotel.

"I had ridden it earlier in the day to go out to the house because we had some contractors there. And I came back - about an hour, hour and a half later and the bike was gone. Broad daylight under cameras behind a fence -- and it was gone," recalled Dabney.

As the hotel staff pulled up surveillance video, Mobile Police responded to file a report.

It's not just any bike -- it's "Day 6 Dream 8" -- worth nearly $1,000.

"We got good clear facial video of the guy... The clothes he was wearing -- not everybody wears that kind of shirt. A local barber probably knows the guy. His haircut -- was actually better than yours - more fresh I would say -- done within 2 days if I had to guess," said Dabney.

While a bicycle is not priority number one for MPD -- Dabney knows they're looking for it and with the suspect's picture now out there -- he believes it's only a matter of time before he gets a fresh mugshot to go with that fresh haircut.

"To the guy who did it -- you know -- dude you need help. You weren't raised that way. Nobody raises their children that way and hopefully we find you," said Dabney.

If you know who he is turn him into Mobile Police at 251-208-7211.
