MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -- A local convenience store tired of being the target of thieves upped their security game and it worked.
Two masked would-be burglars tried to break into the Raceway on Government Boulevard Thursday around 2:30 a.m.
While one acted as the "lookout" -- the other approached the store with a large rock. It was all caught on camera. The suspect with the rock initially goes up to the store's front door.
"He was like oh -- it has burglar bars so this is not going to work and walks away," said Mike Sehar, Raceway owner.
Sehar says it's not the first time they've been targeted after hours by thieves.
"We have had this happen before last year three times... break-ins. The motive is to break-iin in with a cinder block, pipe wrench, or something to break glass and get inside and steal cigarettes," explained Sehar.
The pair may have thought it was going to be an easy target, but since the last break-in Sehar installed unbreakable security film on all of his windows. The surveillance video could be an advertisement of just how well it works.
"And there he goes... First hit. Nothing happens. Picks it up...Now he goes to the other glass... And then he does it again. And nothing happens. He tried three times before leaving," said Sehar as he showed FOX 10 the video.
Leaving empty handed, the large rock is still outside the store. While he'll have to pay for some repairs, Sehar is thankful he didn't lose any inventory.
"It's great. I knew the film would work. It's kind of sad and funny, and so disappointing at the same time because you have to take so many measures in order for you to do business," said Sehar.
Meanwhile, they're offering a $200 cash reward for anyone coming forward with information leading to an arrest. If you can help -- call Mobile Police 251-208-7211.
