Daphne, Fairhope, Foley ranked 7th nationwide for job growth

Fox10 News is committed to Baldwin County. Three cities in the Eastern Shore area are in the national spotlight for job growth.

According to a recent article in USA Today, Daphne, Fairhope, and Foley rank 7th for areas that added the most jobs in 2017. Forbes magazine also named Daphne one of the top 50 cities to grow a business.

According to the article, which used data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the three cities have added more than 4,208 jobs to the area in 2017 – a 4.9% increase.

Baldwin County Commissioner Chris Elliot says he's not surprised by the numbers.

"4,200 additional jobs in the metro area of Baldwin county is incredibly important to our economy,” said Elliott. "We're adding not only highly skilled technical jobs, but also engineering jobs."

Elliott and officials from the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce say at the forefront of this growth are the new addition to UTC Aerospace, the brand new Park at OWA, and the expansion at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope. We’re told small businesses also play a big role.

Officials with the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce say Baldwin County is projected to be the 4th largest county in the state by 2040.
