Lil' Mama, an 11-year-old pit bull with terminal cancer, is getting the royal treatment in her last days, thanks to her friends at the Animal Rescue Foundation in Mobile.
She's spoiled rotten, for a good reason. She ended up at ARF after being abandoned a few years ago. Last year, she was diagnosed with cancer, given only months to live. So the folks at ARF decided to make her last birthday, the best.
"Once we found out that Lil' Mama had terminal cancer, we immediately said we're gonna do something for her," said Trevor Denham, Executive Director of ARF.
And Lil' Mama got the works. The photogenic princess posed for the camera at her very own photo shoot, inviting friends to her birthday bash, just one of the many things on her growing bucket list.
"She's already gone to the beach but she can go again."
She also loves going to Starbucks for a puppuccino, and taking selfies with volunteers, some other things on her list. But Lil' Mama wasn't very interested in my camera. I quickly learned--this is her world, I'm just living in it. Denham said, that's just the way it is.
"Lil' Mama is the reigning queen of ARF, she is, she calls the shots, she's pampered, she knows it, and we love spoiling her."
And the community does too, from the special messages hanging in her room to all of the donations for her birthday party, it's clear Lil' Mama is making the most of her last days. One of the handwritten messages to Lil' Mama reads, "You are the best. So much love to give, so little time left. Run free."
What she really needs now, is a forever home.
"She's just the perfect little girl," said Denham.
Lil' Mama's birthday bash will be held at ARF on Rangeline Road, Saturday, March 10th from 11:00am - 1:00 pm. Dog Days Barkery has donated a sheet cake for all of the dogs. ARF will also be running a $50 adoption special in honor of Lil' Mama.
