On September 27, 2018 members of the Saraland Police Department’s Special Operations Unit stopped James Bernard Braddy of Opa Locka, FL. for a traffic violation on north bound Interstate 65.

"Upon making contact with the driver and questioning him, some of his story just did not add up," said Detective Bryan Mims.

During the stop, police officers assisted by a police K-9, located and seized 62 packages of cocaine and assorted US currency concealed inside of a 2016 Ford Expedition Braddy was driving.

Officials say the total weight of the packages is approximately 130 Lbs. with an approximately street value of $4.1 million dollars.  Braddy was arrested for Trafficking Cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia and booked into Metro Jail.

"These officers are trained on what to look for and how to make stops and what questions to ask that basically lead to probable cause and getting the dog involved to get the drugs off the streets. The training works. It's just getting the right stop and today we were in the right place at the right time," said Det. Mims.

The Mobile County Sheriff's Office and Border Patrol also assisted Saraland Police with Thursday morning's arrest.
