Meet the Elberta Warriors.
"We are kind of the underdog of everybody,” said Hailey Vanbrimmer, a sophomore on Elberta’s softball team.
They are underdogs for a good reason.
"It's a young group of girls and sometimes I forget how young they are because their skill set is pretty good,” said Lanny Jones, the Elberta head varsity softball coach.
This first-year varsity team is made up of only two sophomores, five freshman, four eighth graders and one seventh grader but age is just a number.
Their overall record is 21-13-1 and they went 6-0 in the area and then swept through the area tournament winning the area title.
"Age doesn’t matter, grade level doesn’t matter. I think us working as a team, communication and all of that just comes together as a team,” Carlie Brockman-Graydon, a sophomore on Elberta’s softball team.
"I doesn’t matter who we play. We can play a whole team of seniors and it really doesn’t bother anybody,” Hailey Vanbrimmer.
It's that fearless attitude that has earned them the area title and a bid to regionals.
"It's a group that they just compete hard they don't care who they are playing so we can just schedule who we want to schedule, and they just know they are going to play softball and that makes it really fun,” said Coach Jones.
The future is bright for this team.
"We can do big things,” said Brockman-Graydon.
While their age might be younger than most teams, their love for their team is incomparable.
"I love it. I love my team, I love my school, I love what it's about. It's great, it's small and I love it,” said Vanbrimmer.
