MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - As the year comes to an end, Mobile Police said they are searching for the man responsible for the city's first murder of 2018.

Antonio Collier, 36, is charged with shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend. Mercedes Jackson, 32, was shot and killed on Gulf Field Drive on January 2, 2018.

Police actually arrested Collier two days after the killing, but he bonded out of jail on January 11. After his release, charges against Collier were upgraded to capital murder and he has been avoiding police and prosecutors ever since.

During Collier's first court hearing following his arrest in January, Assistant District Attorney Keith Blackwood said, "The victim was in a car with her new boyfriend trying to assist her sister who was stopped on the side of the road in a residential area. We informed the court that the defendant came in his own vehicle and saw her and shot and killed her."

Mobile Police said Collier should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his location is asked to call MPD at (251) 208-7211. Remember, you can remain anonymous.
