Groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the new Mobile soccer complex on Halls Mill Road Friday morning.
The project costs $4 million, with most of the money coming from the capital improvement program.
Phase One will include two tournament quality fields and two seeded practice fields, along with lighting, a parking lot, and an entrance road.
Eventually, plans call for more tournament fields, lights, bleachers, and concession stands.
But more money will be needed.
Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson said, "We didn't bond money to do this particular project, so its dependent on any partnerships that i can form: public private partnerships, intergovernmental partnerships."
Mobile Sports Authority President Danny Corte said, "It's kind of a double edge situation, where the growing local soccer community, it's very important to. You grow the soccer community, you grow the league, which helps us go out and bring in more tournaments. You have to have the facilities before anything else."
The first phase of construction is expected to be complete by this coming January.
