BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WALA) -- A jury unanimously acquitted former Baldwin County Middle School teacher Danny Hamilton of sex crimes against a 12-year-old student Thursday, according to the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office.

Police accused Hamilton of having sexual relations with the student during school hours and was able to get the girl to his classroom numerous times under false pretense.

The jury reached its not guilty verdict on all accounts Thursday. Police arrested and charged Hamilton in Feb. 2018 after a teacher found a note passed by the girl and another student.

Hamilton’s defense attorney sent us this statement:

“[Hamilton] is quietly and privately trying to recoup from the long hell he and his family have been put through.”

Following the Thursday’s verdict, Hamilton became a free citizen, according to prosecutors.
