MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Police are searching for a teenager accused of faking his own kidnapping to avoid being taken to jail.

Investigators said Marco Perez, 19, is wanted by MPD for filing a false police report and theft of property. Perez is also wanted by federal authorities for probation revocation.

His mother, Tiffany Perez, was arrested Thursday night after police said she helped Marco Perez fake the kidnapping in so he could evade police. She's charged with filing a false report.

Mobile Police said 20 officers wasted a total of 90 hours searching for Perez after he was reported kidnapped.

Anyone with information that can help police find Perez is asked to call 251-208-7211. Officers said anyone who helps Perez avoid arrest can be charged with aiding and abetting a criminal.
