Mayor Sandy Stimpson promised that the City of Mobile would be the safest city in America by 2020.

On Friday, April 12, he got some good news. The 2018 annual Mobile Police Crime Report showed that violent crimes overall is trending down by 11 percent from 2017.

Here's a look at some of the numbers FOX10 News has pulled from the report.

In 2017, there were 50 homicides in Mobile; in 2018 that number was down by 44 percent to 28. In 2017 aggravated assaults posted at 1,329. Last year that number was 1,162 which is a 12 percent decrease.

Robbery, burglary, and vehicle thefts are all down compared to last year. However, the number of rapes has increased by 16 percent year over year. In 2017, 141 rapes were reported. In 2018, that number increased to 168.
