MOBILE, ALA. (WALA)- Mobile Police hit the streets hard Wednesday, carrying out an undercover drug operation off of Dauphin Island Parkway. FOX10 News was the only station there when MPD went knocking on doors.
Chief Lawrence Battiste said for the past three months, undercover officers have been in and out of homes on DIP, building up a total of 42 drug distribution cases against 9 people they said sold them drugs.
Chief Battiste said, "If you go in and pick up one guy, somebody else replaces him immediately, but if you go out and pick up 9 guys at one time, the community feels that impact."
At one home, officers made an arrest. At another home, more than $800 worth of crack cocaine, spice and a needle was found.
The roundup didn't turn up as much as police were hoping, but, the mission is far from over.
Major John Barber said, "The case is already made, so today we recover the narcotics, we have another phase to see if we can make some more arrests as well."
Police served eight search warrants and seized seven guns. The arrested suspects have been identified as Tamalia Freeman and Jarvis Lucas. Both are charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. Freeman is also charged with possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
