Cherokee Street shooting scene

Police investigate a scene in a residential neighborhood on Cherokee Street,

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Mobile Police Department early Saturday afternoon was investigating the scene of a shooting in the 1000 block Cherokee Street.

An official with the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department told FOX10 News a 35-year-old male victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the back.

The victim was transported to University Hospital, he said.

MPD Public Information Officer Cpl. LaDerrick DuBose said officers were dispatched to the location at 12:37 p.m. He said officers discovered the shooting victim, and that he was transported to the hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.

Police do not have any suspects, but the investigation is ongoing, DuBose said.
